The role of aesthetics in architecture, can it be compared to the practice of art?
Set within a beautifully restored 18th century townhouse that was originally built for officials of the Royal Family, The Exhibitionist Hotel has a specialist curatorial programme of art corridors and the main lobby which act as a blank canvas for visual artists to experiment and showcase their work.
The hotel runs a series of bimonthly exhibitions and topical debates, the latest of which poses the question ‘Is Architecture Art?’
With focus on perceptions of space: how art and architecture impact on urban and personal environment, we invite three panelists to present a case study which, in their view, was either successful or unsuccessful in its aesthetic ambitions. The presentations will be followed by Q&A with Lord Cardross as the moderator and provide opportunity for further discussion.
Harry Cardross is the artist and designer at Cardross Glass, and has been working and designing with glass since graduating from the Central School in the early eighties. Harry formed Cardross Glass in 2006 to continue his work independently, after a long and successful relationship with a well known London art glass fabricator.
